In Ancient Egypt, metals are usually associated with the gold of the pharaohs and the treasures of royal tombs. Meanwhile, research at Tell el-Retaba reveals what everyday work with copper and bronze was like in a settlement on the eastern fringes of the country. A Polish-Slovak team has discovered traces of small-scale metallurgical production, which shed new light on the technology of the New Kingdom and the Third Intermediate Period.
