On 25 August, the four-day ESA conference began; it is one of the largest regular European events dedicated to sociology and the social sciences. This year’s event focuses on issues relating to the strengthening of democracy.

The European Sociological Association conference is taking place in Warsaw from 25 to 28 August under the theme “Strengthening Democracies: Social Action, Solidarity, and Sustainable Futures”. Over 3,000 researchers from more than 60 countries around the world are taking part. The four-day programme features an academic agenda divided into several dozen thematic sections and hundreds of discussion panels. The conference is co-organised by the Faculty of Sociology at the University of Warsaw.

As part of the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” programme, funding was provided for the participation in a conference and for the research carried out by 28 employees, 20 PhD students and 7 undergraduates from the Faculty of Sociology.
