The Centre Q workshop “The Situational Self: Acting as Embodied Learning”

Category: Events, I.3.5

Centre Q invites you to the workshop “The Situational Self: Acting as Embodied Learning” with featuring prof. Richard Kemp (Professor of Theatre and Head of Acting and Directing at Indiana University of Pennsylvania).

The workshop will take place December 9, 10 and 11, 2024, Theatre Academy, Warsaw.

This will be a practical experiential workshop in the paradigm of “Embodied Learning” (Schilhab and Groth, 2024) for a combined group of acting students and researchers from multiple disciplines. It will use actor training exercises to investigate the relationship between concepts arising from Cognitive Neuroscience; Theory of Mind, Embodied Simulation, pre-reflective intentionality and inter-subjective meaning making. The project will take the form of Practice as Research (PaR), a well-established research framework in the Performing Arts (Nelson, 2013), in which a research question is investigated through the experiential practices that are used in training, rehearsal and performance. For the actors this will be of benefit in their own practice. For researchers from disciplines such as psychology, neuroscience, anthropology and philosophy, this will provide experiential, Embodied Learning that can prompt concepts and design for experimental studies.
