Guidelines concerning the affiliation of authors in scientific publications at the University of Warsaw

  1. The affiliation shall contain the full name of the University of Warsaw in the language required by the journal (usually in English, i.e., University of Warsaw). The official names of the organisational units in Polish and English can be found in Announcement No. 22 of the Rector of the University of Warsaw from 13 August, 2020.
  2. One’s affiliation shall begin with the name of the University, followed by the names of the faculty, institute, or laboratory, unless the journal requires a different order for these names. Names should be separated by commas.
  3. Abbreviations which are not recognisable by databases shall be avoided (e.g., WF, WPL UW, Faculty of … UW, Warsaw Uni), as well as any incorrect variants of the written form (Warsaw University, Warsaw’s University).
  4. In the case of employment in more than one department or in more than one institution, each affiliation shall be indicated as a separate item. Do not write them in one point by using hyphens “i/oraz/and/&”, and do not write two or more institutions after a comma (see example 4 below).
  5. The name of the University shall be correctly indicated with the name of an employee at the University of Warsaw who cooperates with the journal, whether such an individual is listed on the scientific advisory board or as an editor. This is particularly important for the Shanghai Ranking.
  6. An excessively-detailed affiliation record shall be limited (e.g., leave out the exact name of laboratories) if it is not data required by the journal.
  7. The name of the University shall be given in an unchanged form, i.e., Uniwersytet Warszawski / University of Warsaw. Records written in a form other than the nominative are not understandable to foreign recipients, as well as external databases such as Scopus or Web of Science.
