Open lecture as part of a mentoring visit by Dr Cristian Echeverría Leal from University of Concepción (Chile)

Please join us for an open lecture by Dr Cristian Echeverría Leal from University of Concepción (Chile) on conservation issues and threats to biodiversity in Chile, prepared as part of the mentoring visit under Action I.1.1/IV.1.1 “Mentoring Programme”.

Dr Cristian Echeverría Leal is a full professor at the Faculty of Forest Sciences of the University of Concepción (Chile), director of the Landscape Ecology Laboratory and the Campus Naturaleza initiative at the same university, Vice President of the International Association of Landscape Ecology (IALE) and an expert on trees at the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). He is also Editor-in-Chief of the Springer Landscape Series of publications and serves on the editorial boards of the journals Landscape Ecology, Perspectives in Ecology and Conservation and Socio-ecological Practice Research.

He specialises in research on land use and land cover change, spatial modelling of ecosystem services, conservation planning and ecosystem restoration. His work focuses primarily on the south-central Chile region, where he studies the impact of global change on biodiversity and landscape sustainability.

An open lecture entitled “From University Grounds to Biodiversity Hotspot. Campus Naturaleza Project – A Model for Conservation, Restoration, and Human Well-being in Chile” will be held on 19.05.2025 at 16:30, Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies, Krakowskie Przedmieście 30, room 111.
