Second edition of the Scientific Communication Academy summary
20 11 2025
From February to June 2025, the Human Resources Office conducted 15 training courses as part of the Scientific Communication Academy, using a total of 152 training places. The classes were conducted by experienced specialists and experts from various fields.
The training sessions covered topics such as: using character strengths in public speaking (Dr Małgorzata Styśko-Kunkowska), building a personal brand (Dr Agnieszka Maria Marzęda), voice projection (Dr Beata Ciecierska-Zajdel), and the role of an expert in the media (Dr Ewa Marciniak).
The following topics attracted special interest: Public speaking, how to present yourself and your achievements during conferences and scientific presentations, led by Monika Malinowska, MA, and Storytelling and effective presentation of scientific research results, designed and implemented by Dr Łukasz Przybysz. An original training course prepared by Ms Karina Konieczna (Center for Cooperation and Dialogue), entitled Working with news journalists: my rights and obligations, which was included in the programme for the first time, received the highest rating from participants.
The Academy also offered individual counselling, which was attended by 31 people. They took part in workshops at Radio Kampus, conducted by Wojciech Rodek, MSc, and in the television studio of the Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies, conducted by Dariusz Łukawski, MSc. Individual counselling with journalist Piotr Roszkowski, MSc, on scientific communication was very popular.
The Academy’s programme confirms that there is a need and desire among academic teachers to develop their communication and media skills. Participants particularly appreciated the practical training sessions, which enabled them to practise the knowledge and skills they had acquired.
The Academy of Scientific Communication is financed by the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” Programme (Action V.3.1. Development of UW Staff competences) and by the Center for Cooperation and Dialogue at the University of Warsaw.
