The presentation will address the multidimensional environmental aspects of halting global deforestation in the face of the challenges posed by the unfolding climate catastrophe and explain the global REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation) mechanism. Special emphasis will be placed on the role of indigenous peoples in global climate action and achieving the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees. Recent events and outcomes of COP26 (Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC) in Glasgow will also be discussed.
A discussion will follow the presentation.
