Exhibition of achievements by astronomers from the University of Warsaw

Category: Events, I.3.8, Results

The Kazimierzowski Palace is hosting an exhibition entitled “Gazing at the Sky”, presenting the achievements of researchers from the University of Warsaw Astronomical Observatory. The exhibition accompanies the celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the institution.

The exhibition presents selected achievements of researchers from the University of Warsaw Astronomical Observatory, highlighting their contribution to groundbreaking discoveries in global astronomy.

The exhibition consists of several parts:

  1. dedicated to the OGLE project – one of the world’s largest sky surveys, which has provided unique data on dark matter, exoplanets, and the structure of the Milky Way;
  2. presenting the collaboration with the LIGO–Virgo–KAGRA consortium, which studies gravitational waves generated during collisions of black holes and neutron stars;
  3. focusing on modern telescopes, including H.E.S.S., as well as observatories and space probes that could revolutionise the study of the Universe.

The mission of the Gaia probe, which spent 11 years creating a three-dimensional map of the Galaxy, is also presented. Its observations have led to the discovery of new planets, binary systems and black holes.

The exhibition is open until 24 October 2025 in the lobby of the Kazimierzowski Palace on the University of Warsaw campus on Krakowskie Przedmieście Street.
