III.2.2. Advanced Master’s Degree Programme – info
IDUB Programme Objective(s)
- III. Improving the quality of education of students and doctoral candidates
Name of POB/activity group
Description
Objectives
Creating a new teaching track in the graduate studies programme, oriented towards the education of future scientists, which will offer students an individualised mode of education in the fields of computer science and mathematics.
Justification
Advanced Master’s studies are addressed to a small group of the most talented students, namely those who are planning to undertake doctoral studies in the future. The language of instruction will be English, and the teaching system will be organised along the lines of those at Cambridge and Oxford. In particular, we will introduce the institution of a tutor – an individual academic instructor for each student – and abandon the traditional Polish system of lectures and exercises, in favour of a series of intensive courses, which are not necessarily conducted on a semester basis. This form of organising studies will allow increased participation of the best foreign scientists – specialists in the fields related to POB 3, who will be offered short-term positions as visiting professors. We will engage students in research projects and scientific activities, such as participation in advanced research seminars and conferences. Candidates will be qualified on the basis of exams, and those who are accepted will receive attractive research scholarships.
Tasks
There are plans to grant 20 scholarships per year. We will employ renowned lecturers from Poland and abroad to conduct classes. We also plan to finance short-term stays for visiting professors from internationally recognised research institutions.
