Competition rules
Is it possible for a fixed-term employee to take part in the competition?
Pursuant to § 2 para. 1 point 3 of the Rules of the 1st “Learning University” competition, an employee of the University of Warsaw may participate in the competition, if that person’s employment contract with the University covers a period no shorter than the total duration of the Development Action, and the period of obligation to remain employed at the University resulting from the “Rules for concluding contracts for improving professional qualifications”, constituting Annex 2 to Ordinance No. 85 of the Rector of the University of Warsaw from 18 May 2021, on the principles of improving the professional qualifications of employees from the University of Warsaw.
Is it possible to submit applications for participation in development activities organised by external entities (outside of the University of Warsaw) as part of the competition?
Pursuant to § 3 para. 2 of the Rules of the 1st edition of the “Learning University” competition, this is possible in special cases with the consent of the Rector. First of all, when admitting an application to the competition, it will be taken into account whether the course of study conducted at another university is not also conducted at the UW (i.e. it should first be checked whether the UW by chance does not run such a course, which an employee would like to complete outside the UW, or one with a similar programme).
In turn, according to § 5 para. 7 of the Rules of the 1st edition of the “Learning University” competition, Employee Applications for Development Activities referred to in § 3(2) are subject to assessment by the Committee. They are included in the ranking lists only if the Rector agrees. Thus, applications should not be personally addressed to the Rector before or during the competition.
Is there a maximum amount of funding that can be applied for, under the competition?
Pursuant to § 6 para. 8 of the Rules of the 1st edition of the “Learning University” competition, the amount of co-financing which can be obtained in the Competition is equal to 75% of the total cost of the Development Activity indicated in the Application, while in accordance with § 6 para. 10 the co-financing is granted until the funds referred to in § 1 para. 1 point 1 and point 2 of the Rules run out. It is also worth noting the provision of § 6 para. 2, according to which, when the Committee makes their assessment, they take into account the scale of the expected benefits for the Employer in relation to the total cost of the Development Activity.
Is it possible to obtain funding under the competition for studies in which the employee is already participating, at the time the call for proposals opens, or which have been completed by the employee before the competition opens?
Pursuant to § 3 para. 1 of the Rules of the 1st edition of the “Learning University” competition, co-financing may be granted to studies starting in the academic year 2023/2024.
Postgraduate studies, in which the employee is interested, start in February of the academic year 2023/2024. Can participation in them be covered by co-financing in the competition?
Yes. Pursuant to § 3 para. 1 of the Rules of the 1st edition of the “Learning University” competition, co-financing may be granted to studies starting in the academic year 2023/2024.
Does the submitted application have to relate to the broadening of competences within one's current job position, or maybe to the broadening of competences that may contribute to a potential change in one's job position or place of employment within the University of Warsaw?
Pursuant to § 3 para. 3 of the Rules of the 1st edition of the “Learning University” competition, the Employee’s participation in the Development Activity should lead to the improvement of existing qualifications or the acquisition of new ones, contributing to the achievement of one of the results mentioned in the above paragraph. At the same time, in § 5 para. 4 there is reference to the connection with the current scope of duties or planned tasks. However, we are talking about a change in tasks that has already been planned and is certain.
As part of the action, can a non-research employee extend his/her competences in administrative work, which partly falls within the scope of his/her current professional duties?
The rules do not exclude such a situation.
When can it be expected that the competition will be assessed?
It is difficult to give specific dates, but the committee is prepared to proceed immediately after the end of the call and the formal assessment.
If I apply for funding for studies organized outside UW, should I apply to the Rector for approval in addition to submitting an application?
In such cases, please apply on a general basis. Individually applying for the Rector’s approval is not necessary or even advisable. The Committee will address an inquiry to the Rector on this matter as part of the competition procedure.
