Second edition of the training program for dissertation supervisors and promoters
13 02 2024
We would like to invite you to the 2nd edition of the Training Program for promoters and supervisors of doctoral dissertations conducted at doctoral schools of the University of Warsaw. The purpose of the program is to support the development of the competencies necessary to work with doctoral students and PhD candidates.
The substantive content of the program was based on an in-depth survey of development needs conducted among a group of people who serve as promoters or promotresses and the experience of operating doctoral schools. As a result of the analysis of the responses collected during the survey, three key areas of development needs for promoters and supervisors emerged.
In the 2nd edition of the program, we propose the following topics:
- legal and organizational aspects of promoter care in doctoral schools;
- the individual research plan (IPB) vs. the tasks of the promoter – from the provisions of the law to the practice of doctoral education;
- research funding and career development of doctoral students;
- building a mentoring relationship between promoters and doctoral candidates;
- resolving conflicts in working with a doctoral student;
- the art of communication in taking care of one’s needs and boundaries;
- a workshop on communicating with people in mental health crisis;
- providing feedback in the dissertation care process.
A description of the training program and the training schedule are available on the Kampus-Pracownik website. UW employees who are eligible to participate in the training courses offered in the program received an email invitation.
The program is implemented at the initiative of the UW Doctoral School Directors in cooperation with the Section for the Development of Academic Staff Competencies of the UW Human Resources Office, with funds from the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” program (Action V.3.1 Development of UW Staff competences).
