An exhibit dedicated to archaeological research from the Faculty of Archaeology UW Expedition in Novae
27 06 2022
The ceremonial opening of an exhibit dedicated to the archaeological research conducted by the Faculty of Archaeology UW Expedition in Novae will take place on the 28th of June 2022 (Tuesday), at 17:00. It will present the discoveries made by the Expedition, the methods used, reconstructions of the remains, as well as the prospects for making further discoveries at this interesting site.
Polish-Bulgarian archaeological work at the Roman legion camp Novae has been carried out since 1960, and they comprise the longest, most regularly-excavated sites outside of Poland. The Expedition by the Faculty of Archaeology UW is one of four expeditions currently working on that site and is also the newest of them. For many years, the research team was headed by Professor Tadeusz Sarnowski. It is currently being led by dr hab. Agnieszka Tomas. The team includes doctoral candidates from UW and specialists, mainly from the Faculty of Archaeology at UW. Over the past thirty years, the Team has studied Legion I Italica, fortifications, and a necropolis, among other things. The Team does site excavations as well as non-invasive research in the area around the fortress.
The exhibit will be presented in the gardens of the University of Warsaw Library (BUW) on ul. Dobrej 56/66 until the 10th of July 2022, as part of promotional activities under Action III.3.2 of the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” (IDUB) Programme.
