The second season of the “Oswoić gender” (“Taming gender”) podcast

Category: III.3.2, Podcasts, Results

Wednesday, February 22, 2023 marked the premiere of the second season of the podcast “Oswoić gender” (“Taming gender”), which is being carried out as part of Dr. Marta Usiekniewicz’s project, funded by Action III.3.2 “Promotion of scientific research in the public domain”.

Hosted by Dr. Anna Kurowicka and Dr. Marta Usiekniewicz (The American Studies Center, UW), the podcast “Taming gender” presents the diverse research which is being conducted in gender and sexuality studies. In each episode, guest speakers talk about how gender and sexuality are manifested in cultural and social life, and provide recommendations – because what would a popular science podcast be without homework?

The second season features researchers who are affiliated with the University of Warsaw, representing various disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, including cultural anthropology, cultural studies, sociology, and philosophy. The topics covered include racism in Poland, HIV and AIDS prevention, gender aspects of drinking culture, gender in grammar and pronoun debates, gender mainstreaming and Polish #metoo, gender and sexuality in fantasy, research into BDSM practices, and the creation of an archive of LGBTQ history in Poland.

The podcast is made possible through a grant to promote research under the University of Warsaw’s “Excellence Initiative – Research University” Programme, and the presenters are members of the Gender/Sexuality Lab of the American Studies Center at the University of Warsaw. Sound production and editing were managed by Zuzanna Piechowicz, while Magdalena Sowul, or Panilas, is responsible for the recording and studio.

New episodes will appear every Wednesday on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, Google Podcasts, and YouTube.
