Category: Events, I.1.1/IV.1.1
By using funds obtained in Action I.1.1/IV.1.1 “Mentoring Programme”, the University of Warsaw has the unique opportunity to host an outstanding researcher from the University of Cambridge, Prof. Catherine Barnard, who will be giving a lecture to the University community.
The open lecture, entitled “Challenges of the EU Internal Market”, will take place on Wednesday, the 29th of March, 2023, at 18:30-20:00 in Aula A3, located in the Collegium Iuridicum II building at ul. Lipowa 4.
For many, the EU internal market is a jewel in the crown of the Union’s achievements, and for good reason; however, there are also signs that it is underdeveloped and does not necessarily engage EU citizens from Budapest to Berlin. This lecture will give a broad overview of the successes and challenges facing the internal market.
Catherine Barnard is Professor of EU and Labour Law, and a Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor at Trinity College. She is the author of “EU Employment Law” (Oxford, OUP, 2012, 5th ed.), “The Substantive Law of the EU: The Four Freedoms” (Oxford, OUP, 2016, 5th ed.), and (with Peers) “European Union Law” (Oxford, OUP, 2017, 2nd ed). She is also a member of the European Labour Law Network (ELLN). She is Senior Fellow for “UK in a Changing Europe”, an authoritative, non-partisan thinktank that conducts research and provides information on all aspects of Brexit. Professor Bernard is also involved in public affairs, for example, giving interviews to the BBC, ITV, and Sky, as well as more specialised programs such as “Law in Action”, “Woman’s Hour”, and “Briefing Room”. She is a writer for the Guardian and the Telegraph. She has testified before numerous selection committees on legal issues related to Brexit, immigration, and the Withdrawal Act. She has her own podcast and blog on the subject of Brexit.
In addition to the above-mentioned lecture, on Thursday, the 30th of March, 2023, Prof. Catherine Barnard will lead a scientific seminar for members and supporters of the Centre for Research on European Institutional Design, called “How to write/ publish a good research paper?”. The seminar will start at 18:30 in room 209, located in the Collegium Iuridicum I building at ul. Krakowskie Przedmieście 26/28.
On the 31st of March, 2023 (Friday), Prof. Catherine Barnard will be giving consultations on ongoing research projects on the EU internal market.
The Centre for Research on European Institutional Design
cordially invites all students, doctoral candidates, and employees of the University of Warsaw to the lecture.
