Inauguration of a training programme for doctoral dissertation supervisors at UW

The inauguration ceremony of the training programme for promoters and supervisors of doctoral dissertations which are being conducted in the doctoral schools at the University of Warsaw was held on 14.04.2023, in the Senate Hall at the Kazimierzowski Palace.

The training programme is intended for academic teachers who are employed at UW, who have undertaken the supervision of doctoral candidates preparing doctoral dissertations at the University’s doctoral schools. The originators of the initiative are the doctoral schools’ directors, and its implementation has been carried out in cooperation with the Section for the Development of Competencies of Academic Teachers at the UW Human Resources Office, with funds from Action V.3.1 “Development of UW Staff competences” in the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” (IDUB) Programme.

This is the first, pilot edition of the programme, which will be implemented from April to September of 2023. Its topics will mainly focus on the following:

  • formal, legal, and organisational issues concerning the process of preparing a doctoral dissertation and the awarding of a doctoral degree;
  • formation of cooperation with the doctoral candidate and effective communication;
  • needs arising from scientific disciplines (including interdisciplinarity in doctoral dissertations).

The training consists of a core programme and a complementary offering, which includes training available to all UW academics.
