Mentoring visit lecture – prof. Paula Dentzien-Dias, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (Brazil)

The Faculty of Biology of the University of Warsaw would like to invite you to a lecture of prof. Paula Dentzien-Dias, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande (Brazylia) “Trace fossils: investigating biotic interactions in the fossil record”.

Paula Dentzien-Dias is the professor of Geology and Paleontology at FURG (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande; Brazil), and curator of the Paleontology collection of the Center of Subtropical Biodiversity – FURG. Currently, is part of the Geological Society of London Books Advisors and is Assistant editor of the Journal of the Brazilian Society of Paleontology.

During the lecture, prof. Dentzien-Dias will present Biological interactions in the fossil records through the ichnological point of view. Examples of bioerosions on shells and bones that shows different evidences of predation and parasitism will be discussed. Also, the importance of the study of coprolites will be presented, with the rare preservation of parasite eggs and bacterias, and with the expected food web reconstruction.

The event will take place on 04.05.2023 from 12:00 to 13:30 at the Faculty of Biology, University of Warsaw (ul. Miecznikowa 1, room 102B).
