UW economists look at how much we save with urban trees

Category: III.3.2, Results

Trees provide a range of benefits to urban residents. These are called tree ecosystem services. A team of economists from the University of Warsaw is investigating their value based on an innovative methodology developed by Dr Zbigniew Szkop during his research internship in the United States.

Dr Zbigniew Szkop has developed a technique for valuing the ecosystem services provided by trees growing in cities. He is also the author of an application – a calculator that estimates the value of urban trees – which works well when teaching students.

The results of Dr Szkop’s research work are presented in a film and article prepared as part of the project implementation under Action III.3.2 “Promotion of scientific research in the public domain”.
