The third season of the “Taming gender” podcast

Category: III.3.2, Podcasts, Results

Wednesday the 6th of March 2024 marks the broadcast of the first episode of season three of the “Taming gender” podcast, created as part of a project financed by Action III.3.2 “Promotion of scientific research in the public domain” in the IDUB Programme.

The “Taming gender” podcast is led by dr Anna Kurowicka and dr Marta Usiekniewicz, the co-directors of the Gender/Sexuality section at the American Studies Center at the University of Warsaw. The broadcast presents various approaches and findings concerning research into gender culture and sexuality. During each episode, the invited guests discuss how issues of gender and sexuality are manifested in cultural and social life, and share recommendations – because what would a popular science podcast be without homework?

The third season features guests who are associated with the University of Warsaw, researchers representing various disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, such as cultural anthropology, cultural studies, literary studies, and sociology. Topics covered include the intersection of medical anthropology and gender studies, animal studies and feminist theories as seen by the youngest generation of female researchers, genre studies, masculinity in Polish literature, gender and migration, and equality strategies at the University. The season concludes with a special episode in English, in which we discuss writing the stories of problematic queer figures with the authors of the book “Bad Gays: A Homosexual History”.

The podcast is created with funding for the promotion of research as part of the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” Programme at the University of Warsaw and is led by members of the Gender/Sexuality section of the American Studies Center at the University of Warsaw.

The sound and editing is done by Julia Machnowska, while the recording and studio are arranged by Magdalena Sowul.

New episodes will appear every Wednesday on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts i Google Podcasts, YouTube.
